At approximately 12:20 p.m. today, Aid for Aids of Nevada (AFAN) sent 23 children to Camp Courage, a two-day long summer camp for children affected and infected by HIV/AIDS. Four vans full of enthused children and camp counselors made their way to Disneyland and are expected to return Friday evening. The mission of Camp Courage is to help children between the ages of 5 and 16 overcome the obstacles associated with HIV/AIDS by providing a therapeutic wilderness experience that fosters self-confidence, social interaction and social support. Thanks to the community’s generous contributions of funds and camp supplies, AFAN celebrates four consecutive years of Camp Courage and looks forward to many more to come.
AID for AIDS of Nevada (AFAN) was founded in 1984 and is the oldest and largest AIDS service organization in the state of Nevada. As part of AFAN’s mission, these client service programs assist in enhancing the physical health and psychosocial wellness of the individuals they serve, while promoting dignity and improving the quality of their lives.
